Arrival in Santiago—Day 16 Notes from El Camino

We made it.

Celebrating in the Praza do Obradoiro in front of the Santiago Cathedral

The ride in this morning began in some of the worst rain we had seen while here, but by the time we got to Santiago, the sun had come out.

We spent the morning going through the process of verifying our pilgrimage so we could get our pilgrim certificate (Compostela), then checked into our hotel and coordinated the return of our bikes.

We then made the short walk back over to the Cathedral (we are less than 300 meters away) to bring our pilgrimage to its proper conclusion by going to confession and attending the Pilgrim Mass this evening.

To say we were overwhelmed by the beauty of the Cathedral would be an understatement.

But was more overwhelmed by the simplicity of the Tomb of San Sebastián (Saint James the Apostle), and the awesome privilege it was to pray before the tomb of one of Jesus’s closest friends and a Son of Thunder, and to ask his intercession for all of the prayers entrusted to us by others.

Needless to say, has been a beautiful day indeed.

But, am looking forward to having a chance to spend more time reflecting tomorrow as we spend the day here in Santiago before heading homeward on Monday.

So, until tomorrow, know that you have been held in prayer before San Sebastián himself, and God bless!
